Wai Brown Whanau Reunion T-shirts & Hoodies
Kia ora te whanau,
Attached you will find the brown whanau reunion T shirt. We have included most suggestions and have a range of products to select from.
(1) The basic East Coast blue T shirt is $22 for adults (sizes small to 4 or 5XL) and $21 dollars for children (sizes 2 to 14) (yes, I know its ridiculous - Uncle Waynes cost a dollar more than Samuel’s!)
(2) The two-tone T shirt from quality quick dry fabric is $40 adult – sizes Small to 5XL and $38 for children ( Size 6-8, Size 8-10, Size 10-12, Size 12-14)
(3) Dark blue Sleeveless Hoodies are $52.00 (Sizes 12 – 3XL)
(4) East Coast blue Adult Hoodies are $60.00 each (sizes X Small to 7XL) Kids Hoodies are $55.00 each - (Sizes 6 - 14)
So if you would like any of these products you need to send me an email telling me what you want and what size. I need to pay before they will print the shirts so you will also have to either send me a cheque for the correct amount or if you are conversant with internet banking you can transfer the money into my account which is 06-0996-0475355-01
All orders close on NOVEMBER the 1st so if you haven’t ordered and paid by then you miss out. I know not everyone is on this list serve so could people who are, please spread the news to as many family members as possible. I will also put this message and the photos on the brownwhanau web page.
Just email jm.lardelli@xtra.co.nz to see images of the T-shirts and hoodies.
So spread the word whanau – only 4 months to the reunion.
Arohanui, Aunty Jill
PS Thanks to Tara and Nick for arranging the T shirts and for Nick’s friend Hemi and Uncle Timmy for the designs. I will explain the meaning of the designs when I hand out the T shirts at the reunion. Also thanks to Uncle Winston whose family Xmas present this year is covering the cost of getting the screen print made (I know, I know – a nice change from chocolates and calendars!)

Merry Christmas from the Bevan-Brown Whanau
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO THE BROWN WHANAU
I have included my annual Xmas letter just in case the cards I sent don’t reach you all – I think some of the addresses might have been out of date, especially the Ozzie ones. I have also included some photos taken this year – the family one was taken at Mahaki’s 21st but he has changed girl friends since then so it is a bit dated. It would be great to see some photos of other family members to see how you have all grown this year – outwards for some (me!) and upwards for most.
Well it is only a year to our next big reunion so I hope everyone is saving and planning is going well (Remember, Uncle Wayne decreed that each family had to prepare one activity for everyone to do during our stay on the marae? Uncle Winston and I are starting rock and roll lessons this year especially so we can have a rock and roll activity!)
Arohanui,
Aunty Jill
Merry Christmas From the Bevan-Brown Whanau (How our 2008 was)
Kia ora koutou,
Well let’s hope I do better this Christmas than last Christmas. I actually wrote my annual letter, printed off copious copies, bought the Xmas cards and then only managed to post off about six before heading off to Oz for Xmas and totally forgetting about the rest!
Anyway, I hope you all had a happy, healthy and prosperous 2008. The Bevan-Brown’s have had the usual busy year. Mahaki continues to work at Mana Tamariki Kohanga Reo. He passed the first year of his early childhood degree last year but the second year doesn’t look as promising – with two weeks to go and many outstanding assignments things are looking a bit grim. Not that this appears to bother him – he turned 21 earlier this year and life is his oyster!
Nathan is still in Melbourne although he has made four short trips home this year – the last three were just weekend visits for family celebrations including Raukura’s christening. It has been lovely to see him if only fleetingly. He is still concreting in Oz – it’s hard work but pays really well so that keeps him happy.
The big news of the year is that Tara, Nick and baby shifted back to NZ in May. They were keen for Raukura to be brought up bilingual so returned home and baby started at Mana Tamariki Kohanga Reo when she turned one (I suspect she gets preferential treatment from at least one worker there!) Tara has returned to teaching – you guessed it – at Mana Tamariki kura kaupapa Maori. The school and kohanga share the same new, 6 million dollar building and often work together so it is an ideal arrangement. Tara’s students just love Raukura so she is showered with attention – and thriving on it. She is not a bit shy, a really happy wee girl who sings at the top of her voice and has all the makings of a kapa haka queen.
Tara and Nick have both settled well into NZ life. They are renting out their house in Melbourne and are living with us. They have the two upstairs bedrooms, shower and rumpus room so we are not living in each other’s pockets. They are involved in touch rugby, indoor netball and kapa haka (the advantages of having in-house baby sitters!) Tara is pregnant – due in early April. The present plan is for her to return to work after maternity leave and for Nick to give up work and stay home to look after the new baby. Mind you, their plans do change on a regular basis! They are enjoying being home but are struggling with “being poor.” Nick’s wages are about a third of what he was earning in Oz and they have problems with living on a tight budget.
Winston has had a busy year – although the builders moved out last December he was left with the job of painting, paperhanging and putting the final touches on our renovations. Raukura is the light of his life and he spends endless hours playing with her and taking her on walks in the back pack (I think she spends as many days at home with “Koko” as she does at kohanga reo.) In July we both went to the Philippines and Vietnam. I had a conference in the Philippines but once that was finished we went sightseeing with a vengeance – both really interesting and cheap countries to visit.
My work has been flat out as usual but the conference “perks” help. I am off to Melbourne for an Indigenous People’s conference tomorrow and in May spent 10 days in Iowa with 50 people from 43 different countries. It was an international fellowship award to study gifted education – the experience of living with such a diverse and interesting group of people was amazing. Another highlight of my year has been the launch of a DVD on Autism Spectrum Disorder. A small group of parents and I have been working on this project for years. We fundraised approx $180,000 to pay for producing the DVD and sending 20,000 free copies to schools, hospitals and organizations in NZ (and some overseas). Winston and Raukura are in the DVD along with half the population of PN – “bigger than Ben Hur” as the saying goes!
Anyway, my one page limit is up so I will sign off until next year. All the best for 2009.
Arohanui, - Jill

Update from the Coast
Well the weather is hot and the waves are pumping, its another beautiful summer on the coast. The Christmas Holidays began with a real jolt, a 6.8 earthquake which collapsed a few of the shops on the main street and broke a lot of windows - no one was seriously hurt, and things are pretty much back to normal - whatever the media reported divide it in half and thats probably a more fairer reflection of what really happened. Everyone is well. Hope Hanakoko dropped in to your places. Have a great New Year of 2008 whanau. Keep in touch.
Meri Kirihimete from the Bevan-Browns
Kia ora te whanau,Meri kirihimete ki a koutou. I hope you all have a wonderful Xmas and that 2008 brings you all you wish for yourselves and your family. My apoplogies for not sending my usual Xmas card and letter - I just ran out of time! Life has been very hectic in the Bevan-Brown household lately - well, to tell you the truth, it has been hectic all year! Winston is complaining that being retired is harder work than being employed. He spent the first 6 months digging out a pathway and planting native trees down one of our banks. As the bank resembles Everest in steepness, his landscaping efforts were not easy going. Then for the last 5 and a half months he has been helping the builders with our house renovations. We have done up our ensuite, had an extra toilet and shower put in and raised the roof in the upstairs rumpus room to put in new windows. The builders reckoned it would take 2 months but in fact it took nearly three times as long and was twice as expensive - I am not too sure what that says about the nature of Winston's labouring skills! The year has also been dotted with a number of specialist appointments. Winston is losing weight and is getting very forgetful but despite a barrage of tests the doctors can't pin-point the cause. He still has a few more tests to go so I hope you will all remember him in your prayers. The good news for the year you already know about ie the arrival of our first grandchild - Raukura Maraea Cecelia Hennessy. We are over in Melbourne at the moment to enjoy our first Xmas with her. Nathan, Tara and Nick shouted Mahaki and his girlfriend, Anna, a trip over as a twenty-first birthday present - so it will be really wonderful having the whole family together for Christmas. (We arrived 2 days ago and have had thunder, lightning and rain ever since. It was so bad we spent an hour sitting in the plane on the tarmac because it wasn't safe to get off!!) Talking of Mahaki's birthday, you are all invited to a "small family get together" at our pace on the 12th of January. Mahaki had the choice of a large party or a small family get together and some money. He chose the former so I booked my work marae and then a few weeks ago when he needed money to pay for a large car repair bill he deided he would like the money and a small party at our place instead. I cancelled the marae booking but wished I hadn't as his small party appears to be growing by the minute as the word "leaks out" around Palmerston North (We are hoping some of his "yobo friends" will get lost on their way out to our place!) However, there is plenty of room for family. We are putting up a couple of tents and getting mattresses from the Kohanga - it may not be the Ritz but there are beds for anyone who wants to stay. Well I am getting hassled as people want to hit the Melbourne markets to do some Xmas shopping. Once again I hope you all have a wonderful Xmas and a Happy New Year.Arohani, Aunty Jill and Uncle Winston.PS I will ask Tara to send some photos to go with this message later xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Tara & Nick's new baby! 3.8.07
Kia ora te whanau,Great to catch up with all the news – Uncle Wayne you surpassed yourself! Good luck on your mission, Jono. Booman, you will have to put photos of Manu’s wedding on the site. Sorry we couldn’t make it but we were too busy in Melbourne becoming nana and koro. Raukura Maraea Cecelia Hennessy arrived on the 3rd of August. She weighed in at 71b 13oz and arrived in exactly three and a half hours from first pain till birth! With Nick on one side of Tara, Winston on the other, and me behind all pushing on cue I am sure we sped things along. Raukura is a little angel as you can see below but with the lungs of an accomplished opera singer she had four adults fully occupied for the first week of her life. Poor Tara has been finding it a real challenge since Winston and I returned to NZ and Nick to work.It was great to see Horowai, Timmy and whanau when we were over in Melbourne – hopefully we will get to see them on a more regular basis. Love and God bless, Nana and Koro!

4 living generations of Samuel
Samuel Lardelli 7 months
Samuel Lardelli at 7 months. He is dynamite now that he can crawl and walk holding onto the furniture. He sucks everything and smiles at everyone. The cat is missing a few little clumps of hair when Samuel has been particulary faster then the cat. He is looking more like Malia's family with fewer characteristics of the Brown or Lardelli whanau. We will see what the next few months will bring - the growth small babies make is amazing.

Well, I have heard all about the latest reunion from the Haengas and am very envious. Was very disappointed couldn't make it this year as I was really looking forward to it, especially now the boys are getting older and still don't really know their cousins all that well. I was really pining to come home to this one but it was not to be as we had a couple of new additions to our family (two nephews, Nanette's mokos) so it would have cost an arm and a leg to get us all home!! Never mind, 3 years gives us time to save and hopefully the older ones will be making millions of dollars by then and can pay for themselves, lol!!
I have attached our whanau photo to add to the site. This one is of Jamie's air force graduation in Adelaide (December 2005), back left: Jeremy, moi, Jamie, Anthony and AJ (left) and Benjamin (right) in the front. It's interesting to see all those Wai Brown "dials" on the kids!! Will send some more later.
Fantastic to have something like this to keep in touch with everyone! Looking forward to catching up with Matu, Judy and the kids next week as we are heading up to Queensland for a break.
Love to you all
Sister/Aunty Georgina, Bro/Uncle Anthony and all the cousins/boyzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Next Brown Whanau reunion at Reporua 2009
After a family meeting the date has been set for the next Brown Whanau reunion at Reporua. 3 year intervals have been decided as the best option for our whanau as many now live in Australia. So in 2009 the Reporua Marae is booked for the Christmas - New Years period. Make sure you are there!
